Science Teachers! Check out this website.

A junior high/high school science teacher from New London shared this site with me. It contains many science and math simulations from the University of Colorado at Boulder. There are simulations for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. It is called Interactive Simulations by PhET. You'll want to check it out! (Note: Hover over Interactive Simulations above to go to the site.)

Top Websites for Teaching and Learning

Want to start using Web 2.0 tools in your classroom? Click on Top Websites for Teaching and Learning under My Favorite Links. This list is created each year by the American Association of School Librarians. (There are now three lists. Click on view previous years' list at the bottom of the web page.) The current list is subdivided into seven categories: Media Sharing, Digital Storytelling, Manage & Organize, Social Networking & Communication, Content Collaboration, Curriculum Sharing, and Content Resources: Lesson Plans and More. Each of the free resources is listed as a link along with a brief description and the standards for the 21st-Century Learner which it addresses.

Need Ideas for Teaching or Promoting Children's Books?

Check out Peggy Sharp's Website at www.peggysharp.com if you are an elementary teacher. She gives an idea of the month (which are also archived) as well as her top picks for the year. Her FAQ's give a website for teaching strategies for various children's and young adult books. You may also want to subscribe to her inexpensive newsletter entitled "New Book News."

Want to Show a YouTube Video without the Ads?

This summer I learned about ViewPure. The link is http://viewpure.com. You enter the URL into their location box and click Create. You still show the video from YouTube but without all the ads, comments, and other things. They even have a button you can drag to your bookmarks bar. Next time you see a YouTube video you want to use, all you need to do is click on that button when you're on the YouTube page.

Welcome to Library Corner!

The purpose of this blog is to share web links and other interesting technology and children's literature information I find that will support the teachers and the curriculum of the Danville (Iowa) Community School District. Please feel free to contribute things you find that support this purpose. We can learn more about technology and K-12 children's literature together!
